Meet our Founders
Cynthia Millhorn
My mother will tell you that as soon as I knew a story, I was telling it. And, telling it with my own flare. Story has driven me in both my educational and professional pursuits my entire life.
I first earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre, then continued my education by completing dual Master’s degrees: the first in Communication and Storytelling Studies and the second in Liberal Studies.
As an educator, entertainer, and creative, I have worked in the arenas of law, journalism, film, theatre, education, psychology and the visual arts. These distinct professional experiences have created an interdisciplinary resume from which I draw to create highly specialized, bespoke enrichment experiences and learning opportunities for professionals and communities.
My diversified experience and love of improving the work and everyday living of others led me to partner with co-founder Heather Richardson to create Anecdotal Solutions - a communication and storytelling firm dedicated to practical application, measurable results, and, sometimes even, a little entertainment.
As an accomplished creative writer and performer, I offer a unique set of performance shows blending scholarship, theatre, and storytelling.
My commitment to growth and education fuels my work which includes streamlining professional communication systems, fine-tuning interpersonal relationships, teaching conflict resolution, and equipping groups and individuals with tools to level up and actualize their ideals and goals.
When I'm not serving Anecdotal Solutions' clients, I am working on my children's literature projects, planning my next international trip, or enjoying game nights with friends.
Heather Richardson
I’ve always believed in the power of a good story. Early in my career my focus was both creative writing and journalism - weaving together narratives to tell the vibrant stories of my community.
Before Anecdotal Solutions, I spent more than a decade teaching writing at both the secondary and university levels, guiding students through the intricacies of critical thinking, clear expression, and finding their voice. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and English, with concentrations in journalism and creative writing, as well as a Master’s degree in Education. This foundation has given me a unique perspective on how creativity and structure come together to shape impactful communication.
Today, I channel these experiences into designing workshops that bring a fresh, creative approach to professional development. From storytelling for leaders to improv for team-building, our programs are designed to engage, inspire, and help professionals communicate with clarity, confidence, and creativity. I believe that the best solutions come from listening, collaborating, and thinking outside the box—and that’s exactly what I help teams do every day. Teaching writing has shown me that creativity isn’t just for the arts—it’s the secret to building stronger, more effective teams.
Outside of helping organizations strengthen their communication and teamwork, I continue my work as a writing instructor and freelance writer. When I’m not immersed in creative projects, you’ll find me with a good book, a great cup of coffee, or exploring the beautiful landscapes of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
